How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Only 3? I would say I’m really compassionate, Strong and Determined… and (passionate) ok that’s 4 Whoops!

When you are having ‘Me’ time, where do you go and what do you love to do?

I’m out and about a lot and I’m always socialising and dressing up. When I get a night off you will most likely find me on the couch in my ugg boots watching re-runs of “Will and Grace”. Or I love to go and check out and support live music around Melbourne and see my friend’s projects. I also love a good work out at the gym (Keeps my mind clear) and I love to see my beautiful big Italian Family.

Who is your style icon?

My greatest style icon would be my Mother. She has the most incredible eye for fashion and I’ve learnt so much about putting outfits together and being glamorous from her. She has taught me that clothing and how you are presented is important for your inside and your self esteem in general. If you look good, you feel good. If I had to pick a celebrity I would have to say I’m a HUGE fan of Kim Kardashian (I may get crucified for that) but I love how she has made having a “Booty” fashionable (great for curvy girls like me) and she isn’t scared to take fashion risks, flaunt her figure or make mistakes.

For those who don’t know you or your amazing voice. How would you describe yourself as an artist?

I would describe myself as an extremely passionate artist and storyteller. I feel it takes more than just a “voice” to connect people to your music. I’m a very honest, real performer who has lived all the music that I sing and write about. I find that I am naturally able to connect with an audience and also speak to each person in the crowd individually, as if I am singing only to that one person, yet I can work an entire room. As a vocalist and performer I’m all heart and all soul. Nothing you see of me isn’t real. I’m also strong and fierce. I like to think that I empower women to take hold of their own life and work with what they have. I want to inspire women to be confident and love who they are. Vocally I have been described as a mix between “Tina Turner, Etta James and Anastasia” I often get called a “Pocket rocket powerhouse” my voice is pretty strong and big I have a commanding presence on stage for a girl only 5ft tall. I am also the lead vocalist and Co songwriter of Mayfield, My original band. We are soon releasing our debut album

Who has been your biggest mentor or role model in your career?

There really have been so many over the years. But I would have to say my younger brother Anthony Troiano (Drummer of Tame the Sun band and Owner/director of AJT Jewellery). He is a musician also and is relentless with his music and projects in general. He has an incredible work ethic and is an amazing young entrepreneur. He has taught me to create my own luck, to work hard and to never give up. He encourages me to just keep going and keep working hard. He has always told me “The music you write and your talent speak for itself, they need no explanation”. This industry is a tough one, you need people who are in your corner. He is a huge support and mentor for me.

The theme for this years Fashion Aid is Met Ball. Who or what is your inspiration for the night?

This excites me so much! My inspiration will be the following words “Glamour, Strength, Structure” in other words. Oliver Rousteing from BALMAIN. Anything he touches is literally a masterpiece. I’ll be stealing a few pages out of his book for the night.

Fashion + Aid is September 10th, Don’t miss out on hearing CARLA‘s amazing voice live on stage with one of this year’s designers.
