MELBOURNE RULES
‘MELBOURNE RULES’ To celebrate the AFL grand final, Sneaker Freaker magazine has produced the world’s first custom footwear made from genuine Sherrin footballs and kangaroo leather. Titled ‘Melbourne Rules’, the project is a creative collaboration between Sneaker Freaker magazine and BespokeIND, a custom footwear workshop also based in Melbourne. The concept was designed by Sneaker Freaker’s founder, Simon ‘Woody’ Wood. A world famous sneaker collector and professional footwear historian, Wood has well over 2000 pairs in his collection, but this is the first time he has commissioned custom sneakers to his own personal specification.
To continue the local theme, both shoes are fully lined with black kangaroo leather, one of the softest hides in the animal kingdom, while waxed cotton laces recall the white lacing on the AFL ball.
Shoes this good deserve deluxe packaging, and both pairs are presented in custom acrylic boxes complete with turf inlays, AFL goal post graphics and a golden ‘Melbourne Rules’ logo that references the iconic Sherrin game ball design.
I love when creatives come together to create something uber cool.
