Martine Van Reesema
I love a good bespoke leather good, especially when it’s from an Australian label.
Meet Martine van Reesema
Martine van Reesema was founded out of the desire to create bespoke leather pieces following an extended period abroad. All pieces are designed, prototyped and produced in her Adelaide based studio, allowing a unique control over the product.
All bags are made to order using vegetable tanned hides. Vegetable tanning is chromium free, does not make use of any harmful chemicals, Instead, it utilises naturally occurring tannic acids found in bark, branches, leaves and fruit. Each individual skin of vegetable tanned leather ages uniquely, just as skin does. As the leather ages, it will caramelise and develop a distinct and individual patina reflective of its use.
I’m a little in love with the colour, texture, the simplicity of these pieces. I love the rawness and the boho feel these bags have. Have a close up look below.
With an aesthetic focus on clean lines and form and a strong appreciation of the natural beauty of each individual skin, each piece is crafted by hand, seeking to glorify the leather, on a made to order basis.
